Above the Clouds is located in the Wiley Oakley area and though it has cabins around it, this home feels a world away. A honeymooner’s quite retreat is the best way to describe this home. The wood walls, hardwood floors and exposed beams give you the feel of nature while the yellow accent walls compliment the wood adding an air of cheerfulness to the home. This home has so many little touches such as the carved bears climbing the posts and relaxing on the overhead beams that you can’t help but feel right at home and relaxed during your visit.
The kitchen has plenty of counter space and is well laid out. The bar will seat 2 and there is also a table for 2. Across from the kitchen are the full bath (shower only) and the laundry facilities are hidden away behind the folding doors.
Moving into the living room/game area you have a full sized pool table, futon and a chaise lounge that beckons you to enjoy the fireplace. The wood burning fireplace is the feature in this room & with stacked stone and the crackling of the fire it is guaranteed to set a romantic mood. There is also a TV, DVD and VCR. The deck has a wooded setting that can be enjoyed at the patio set or from the hot tub; a charcoal grill has also been provided.
The loft is spacious and includes a half bath, king size bed and natural wood furnishings including an armoire with built in mirrors. The Jacuzzi calls from across the room so go ahead and spoil yourself!
When you stay at Above the Clouds you won’t want to come back down!
This is my 2nd year in a row staying at this location and I couldn't be happier. Cabin was incredibly clean, location well kept, and an incredible value. The cabin itself is very nice and you couldn't ask anything more for the price. One small issue w/ the phone/internet not working upon arrival but they had taken care of it quickly.
Very nice cabin! Would definitely stay again! Very clean, pleasant, quite and cheap!
Get cabin for two with a nice ride to the property. I wouldn't take a low sitting vehicle cause the driveway is steep and you will scrape. And it's kinda hard to get turned around. Other than that this is a great place to stay!!
This was our first family trip to Gatlinburg. We were very pleased with our cabin. We would definitely rent one again!
Our stay at the cabin was excellent overall. The cabin was beautiful, well maintained and well appointed. It's worth the price. It was close to downtown Gatlinburg so getting to everything was pretty easy. We plan on renting it again. Just a few things to be aware of. I definitely recommend getting there before dark to make navigating the road/driveway easier. The road actually has 2 road signs at the junction. Oak Ct and Big Oak Ct. Oak Ct is the turn to the right and Big Oak Ct is the road you'll be on if you keep going straight. But overall it's not hard to find. !. The driveway is a 180 turn from the road and is bordered by a rock wall on the off side. You can forget about "turning" into it. You'll need to go down the road far enough to turn around or just back up the drive every time. The firewood is not in a wood box, it's just piled on the ground and covered with a tarp so most of it was damp. They supplied 2 fire logs, plan on bringing extra or lots of kindling. The bed is super soft, like sleeping on one big pillow. Not a downside, just takes getting used to if you don't normally sleep on a soft mattress. Other than those few things, which are rather minor, it was a great honeymoon and my wife and I thank the people at Mountain Chalets.
The cabin was extremely clean, warm and cozy, and very well appointed. The Hot Tub was perfect. These are mountain cabins, and you drive on winding, steep, mountain roads to get to them. My only real complaint is the directions and the road signs have problems. The road signage on these winding roads is very poor at best. Truthfully, the road signage or lack thereof, is really the only problem that we had. We spent the better part of 1 hour trying to find our cabin. After we found it, and rewrote our directions, then driving down to the FlapJack house in Gatlinburg took all of 9 minutes. The directions along with the road signage are definitely a problem. I think that Mountain Rentals should have an "individual map" drawn for each rental cabin, with all of the intricacies. Example, the road sign for our cabin was "Oak Ct" or "Big Oak Ct". YES, there were 2 actual street signs for our street. Another example is the sign for Twin Oaks Road is totally hidden inside of a bush, which we thought about trimming so that others could read it. Another example is, when leaving the cabin and heading down the mountain, Elm St just turns into Skyline Drive with no indication of signage that tells you that you are now on a different road. In fact, Elm St is a real problem all by itself. Example: There are actually 2 Elm St signs, and one has an arrow pointing a direction. However, with the arrowed Elm St sign post bent a little, is it pointing to go "Up" the road behind the sign, or is it just bent and really pointing "Down" the REAL Elm St. road? Hint: Down the road is the REAL Elm Street. It really is bad. For our next rental, I think we will get one that is much closer to the bus station, and is not so far up the mountain. But we loved the cabin for sure.
The cabin was very clean and comfortable. It is pretty far up the mountain, but it's a very peaceful, quiet location. Definitely worth the drive.
We had a very excellent stay at the cabin. The cabin was very clean and very comfortable. All of the utilities worked great without any problems. The hot tub was very relaxing and clean. The driveway takes a little skill to get up, but after a couple of times it's not a problem. The drive up to the cabin is very curvy, but what do you expect for being halfway up a mountain? I would recommend this cabin for a couple or a family with at minimum of two children. I would definitely stay in this cabin again.
Nice Cabin, rough road. Beautiful view and excellent cabin, TV's worked great, beds were nice & comfy. Hot Tub was good. Pool Table not level. Wasn't clear online that cabin was so far up in the mountains. But a nice experience. Except for the drive to and from every day.
The cabin was really nice! The only complaint was the directions to the cabin. The street signs need some help, and the directions said to turn on a road that wasn`t there. We found it by accident! But we love it and would stay there again.
This was our third anniversary..we had a wonderful time the view from our bedroom in the loft- we could see the sunrise how beautiful it was-there was a slight snowfall which made it even more beautiful. The cabin was extremely clean we will definitly come back.
Nice place great get away hope to return again soon
We rented this cabin for our Honeymoon to Gatlinburg. I would highly recommend this location. The driveway was a little steep, which is expected in the mountains. The place was clean and exactly as described. We hope to return.
I rented this cabin to celebrate our 10yr anniversary. The cabin was very clean and although there was a couple cabins around we still felt secluded. We even had a mother bear with 2 cubs walk around the woods by the cabin.
I have been to gatlinburg several times over the past 20 some years but this being the first time fever staying in a cabin, and it made this trip so much more memorable!!! It was like a home away from home and it was peaceful and beautiful!!! I cant say enough about this cabin except I didnt want to leave. Thank you so much for this experience and we will stay again.
We really enjoyed staying in Above the Clouds. Used the fireplace everyday and night. Bed was super comfy...slept like a baby. A really nice place to just relax!
This was a perfect secluded romantic cabin in the mountains complete with a adorable bear decor, hot tub and jacuzzi. We hated to leave, and so look forward to coming back to make more memories!
I cannot say enough about how pleased I am with our stay at Above the Clouds. When we first arrived we had a slight issue with the internet but just turned out to be an unplugged router. The service has been great. If you are looking for a laid back, relaxing cabin, this one would be great. It has a little bit of everything. My husband came here for our anniversary without the kids. It was perfect for that. We could hang out in the hot tub, play a game of pool, or rest in the jacuzzi tub. At one point he laid out on the futon in the living room area and channel surfed while I cuddled up in a blanket in the chair playing on the computer. It was peaceful and relaxing and just what we needed. I would totally recommend this to a couple wanting to get away. I will add, which Mountain Rentals does talk about, that this cabin would NOT be easy to come to if there was snow on the road. It is near the top of a VERY narrow, winding road. The driveway has quite the hill to it as well but my little Cavalier made it up it just fine. Just thought I would warn to those of you that are planning on coming here after a fresh snowfall. We came mid-April and it was BEAUTIFUL! I would love to check out the other cabins that Mountain Rentals has, but would definitely recommend to others to stay in!
This cabin is wonderful! The Christmas decorations were beautiful. Thanks for making our 5th wedding aniversary perfect.
We decided to have a Smokey Mountains Wedding so began our search for a cabin. The website for Mountain Rentals is very easy to navigate and search for amenities you are needing in a rental. We were able to search for cabins with High Speed Internet and a pool table very easily and narrow the field down. As far as the cabin goes, very clean and very well maintained. The layout is good and it was perfect for what we wanted, to relax and spend time together. The hot tub on the back deck made for enjoyable evenings. Our only problem with the cabin was that the Internet was not working properly. We only had internet access for about two hours on the second day and that was it. We called Mountain Rentals about the problem and they responded very quickly and sent a maintenance man Art out to check out the problem. Art tried to restore the internet but after a call to Internet Service Provider(ISP), found out that the problem was with the ISP and not with equipment in the cabin. Although we were disappointed with no internet we were pleased with the service and efficiency in which Mountain Rentals handled the situation. Let me state again, I feel the lack of internet service was out of Mountain Rentals hands and they did try to fix the issue promptly. Overall, two thumbs up, our stay there was fantastic and we plan to go back next year. Thanks.
My husband and I stayed at this cabin for a week and we absolutely loved it! It was just the right size with all the right amenities. The wireless internet was definitely a major plus. We would most probably stay at the same cabin when we come back to Gatlinburg.
The cabin was very clean and comfortable. The area is very quiet. It's a great cabin for a couple.
We would definitely stay here again. It was perfect for the two of us. The cabin was clean and looked just like the virtual tour. We were there the beginning of Dec. and the cabin was decorated for Christmas which we both enjoyed. It had everything we were looking for. Cozy, romantic, and even though it was winter and wasn't much foliage it still felt secluded. The driveway was difficult at first but got the hang of it. Only con is the cabin is not easy to find at night. The Twin Oaks Rd. sign was against a hill with branches that made it difficult to see. Would be helpful if reflectors or something were on it. We found Elm Rd and didn't realize we were on the right track so we drove pass it twice. A friendly local helped us find our way.
This unit was a pleasant surprise. It was 1 of the cheaper units, but what we got was worth evey penny maybe more. I am from PA and during my 9 Hr. drive getting here I questioned whether it was worth it. As soon as I opened the door I it was no longer a question. All I can say is WOW! some of the best money I ever spent. The only iffy I will have to agree is the drive way, but if you can navigate the traffic gettin here you wont have a problem. Will def. come back and probly to the same cabin.
This cabin is amazing!! It is decorated nicely and very clean. It is also secluded. The only tricky aspect is the drive way. We had to back up into it every time because we have a suv and it couldn't make the tight turn to get up the very steep hill. The kitchen is nice if you like to cook and there is even a grill. We really enjoyed staying there and hated leaving!
this unit was great expect for the lighting in the front of the cabin. my husband and i arrived late and it was very dark but the light out front was very weak and i had to leave my car lights on so we could see. the staff was very friendly but i would have probably been just as happy with a cabin closer to the bottom of the mountain but i didn't know where the cabin was until we got the key. my overall experience was great though, i'm just a critical person.
The cabin was excellent! It was very clean and tidy. We loved the open loft and the balcony. Everything about the cabin was very above average and a good price for all you get. You will definatly see wildlife. My wife and i saw bear regularly. And the view on the way to the cabin is breathtaking. The cabin is very quiet and relaxing. we will definatly be staying again.
We were very pleased and impressed with the unit as well as the service provided by the company. Everything was clean, tidy and in good working order. We did find some loose items in the cabin which were promptly addressed by the maintenance staff. We will definitely be staying in one of Mountain Rentals' cabins again.
This was an awesome cabin. Only thing we did not like was the tempupedic type mattress. Did not work for us with bad backs. Nice location 2.5 miles up mountain. Loved the layout with huge bath on first floor - just left our luggade there. Great that it is pet friendly - but not a huge amount of grass for them - but forest floor that worked fine. Huge private deck, tub was hot and neighbors not too close. Will definitely stay here again. Best expereience we have had. Rental staff great - very accomodating and helpful when we asked to stay another night. Rent this one - you won't be sorry!
Pros: Beautifully decorated and themed rental, overall decent and clean, spacious kitchen, nice fireplace, way up in the mountains, private and quiet even though cabins were around, loft style bedroom very cute, pet friendly a plus, pool table in good condition, great location between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge Cons: Shower was not as clean as hoped for, lighting was dim in the bathroom, hot tub head cushions had mold spots, though the unit was pet friendly there was no grassy area for our dog to use the bathroom, we had to have him on a strip about 1 foot wide near the end of the drive, drive difficult to pull in and out of, no can opener in the kitchen Overall, we liked the rental and would most likely rent again.
Very nice cabin. Kitchen could be stock with more cooking utensils. The Pet friendly cabin was a plus. Fireplace was great. Cabin very quiet and secluded.
