Description

This home was built by combining two very finely crafted cabins into one. The front and main section of the house was built in 1830 and acme from Big Creek Valley on the Clinch River in Hancock County, TN. The house was practically destroyed by a flood in 1882 and was moved to higher ground about 200 yards off the river bank in 1884. A stone with that date chiseled in it was discovered when the house was moved to Timberidge in 1984 and can still be seen in the new chimney. This cabin may be historic, but the amenities are all modern so you get the best of both worlds when you stay here. After the drive up the winding country road, you'll feel welcomed by the inviting front porch with its chairs and knick-knacks. Entering the home, you'll be delighted by the large country kitchen with a dining area for 6. Off the back deck is the home's private hot tub. Down the hall, you'll find a bathroom beautifully finished in wood with a Jacuzzi tub (no shower). In the living room, you can settle down on comfy furniture and enjoy the wood-burning fireplace and the TV with VCR/DVD. Or, if you prefer to be more active, stroll over to the pool table and enjoy a game or two of pool, complete with stools. From the living room, you may also access the porch, where you can enjoy the beautiful wooded surroundings on the swing or table & chairs. There's also a charcoal grill. Back inside the living room, you may climb to the second floor's large master bedroom with a king-size bed, TV with VCR, gorgeous bureau, and uniquely shaped custom windows. This room also has its own full bathroom (shower only)

A doorway in the kitchen leads downstairs to the home's second bedroom, where you'll find a king-size bed and TV. It also has a private screened in porch with rocking chairs from which you may listen to the birds and take in the partial view of the mountains. This floor also houses the washer & dryer, and another full bathroom (shower only). Finally, for the adventuresome, a steep, narrow circular staircase in the kitchen leads to the loft that overlooks the living room and holds a queen-size bed.

New Years at "Comin' Home" (Gardendale, AL) - 1/5/2012

My husband and I stayed at Comin' Home several years ago and loved it. After hearing about the New Year festivities that Gatlinburg has every year, we decided to come back and bring our children. We made sure to book early so that we could stay at Comin' Home again, because we enjoyed the cabin so much. Just as last time, we loved the cabin and had a great stay! The cabin is so quiet and peaceful, which is what we love so much about it. It also has plenty of room, so that you feel like you are at home. There were two minor things that could be improved. The first was that there was not enough hot water. I don't recall having this problem last time, so I'm not sure if a new water heater has been put in or why there was a problem this time. The jacuzzi was pretty much unusable because there was not enough hot water to fill it up. If no other water had been used for a while, then you could barely get it just past the jets, so that you could at least get in, but it wasn't enough water to be able to relax in. We would also run out of hot water if more than 2 people tried to take showers right after each other (even very short showers), or if you tried to wash dishes or clothes while taking a shower. The second issue was that they changed the bathrooms since the last time we were there. They took one of the showers (which I believe had a tub as well) out. That leaves the cabin with only one shower (and a VERY tiny one at that), and no bath tub (besides the jacuzzi) which is too large to try to bath a toddler in, or to jump in if you are trying to get ready quickly. These were both just very minor inconveniences though, just thought the info may want to be passed along for the owner to think about. Despite those things, we had a WONDERFUL stay, and would definitely come again if the opportunity arises. And as always, our experience with Mountain Rentals was fabulous. The website is easy to use, the service is fast, and the prices are the best around!
