This tunnel is on the way to caves code! Its a little bit of a drive but WELL worth it. I would recommend stopping at the Welcome Center just as you enter the Smokies and getting info. You can get maps for caves cove and for driving up in the smokies. There are numerous roads you can explore and they are amazing! There are all kinds of signs to guide you on the drive through the mountains.
I also recommend Clingsman Dome. The hike up to it is five miles and kinda tough, although it is paved, but it is so worth it.
My family and I travel to gatlinburg every spring! We love it so much. Explore the shops downtown. We dont go to too many of the attractions because they are so pricey.
I highly recommend the ober gatlinburg tram ride...kinda pricey - you might be able to get a group discount but it is reallllyyy cool! The kids would love it! We also play putt putt - the ripelys davey crockett is a ton of fun!!
In Piegon Forge you must go see the Old Mill - I believe I have some pictures of it up on the page. Also you should see piegon forge at night - the lights and atmosphere are pretty cool - the kids will LOVE it!
Almost everywhere has coupon books you can pick up and I would! Saves you a little money.
I hope this helps and if you have any questions let me know! I would love to help! And props to you for being foster parents - thats truly amazing! HAVE FUN!
Sara
correction: Its about a half a mile up to clingmans dome. Not sure where I got five! SORRY!
