I'm getting married this December and My Fiance and I are going to New York for the first part of our honeymoon. We really want to come to Gatlinburg and stay in a log cabin but neither of us drive. Is it at all possible to still come and enjoy the area? What cabins would be most suited to us if any?

Journey's End Cabin at Beech Branch

This was our first visit to Gatlinburg TN.
We were very, very pleased with our stay at Journey's End Cabin.
The mountain view from the cabin is spectacular!
The cabin is very clean, not the least bit shabby or worn out.
We could tell alot of thought and care went into the cabin's decor.
It's decorated like somebody's quaint country home.
Even champagne flutes and wine glasses are provided.
It was almost perfect except for the hard mattress which one typically finds in most chain motels.
I woke up every morning with a lower backache. Next time I go I will bring a thick foam mattress pad.
The driveway is very steep but believe or not your car will make it up (in first gear)!
I suggest arriving before dark your first day, especially flatlanders not use to such steep grades.
We will return again and want to give a very special thanks to the owners who created this little piece of heaven.
Lee & Vicky from Cedar Springs, Michigan

The location was great however i believe this chalet could benefit from some updates. The restroom on the lower floor needed a new toliet seat cause it is pitted with holes and the carpet thru the whole house was old and dirty. The hot tub is only a 2-3 person and for a three bedroom chalet it needs a larger one. On the last night we were there the hot tub quit working and were not able to get it working again. It was a big disappointment for our last night there. Also the view on the MRG web site of the chalet overlooking the park needs to be updated. The trees need to be trimed back to have a more acurate view. The web site pic is old and the current view is not all that great now.

My first time in Gatlinburg TN

Hello everyone this will be my first Thanksgiving in the Gatlinburg area. We have spent several years in NC, Beech Mnt area and love it but thought we would try somewhere else. Im not sure what to expect with the weather and I would like some suggestions on where to take a 10 year old boy and a 16 year old girl. Keep in mind we are in a recession and I would like to do this trip on a budget.

Nice and secluded, easy access to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Back roads to get to cabin without using the major roads and easy access to bypass to the national park. Great view of the mountains, 1 bedroom in loft, 2 bath, 2 jacuzzi's 1 in loft bedroom 1 on deck, nice kitchen, 2 cable tv's, charcoal grill in driveway. The uper jacuzzi was nice with a picture window to see the mountains. My only complaints are, the decks, there are 2 or wrap around, one side had nothing, no furniture, no grill, no hammock, no table not even a chair, I thought this was a waste for such a big space. The other side did have 2 wood chairs, little table, swing and a jacuzzi. The toaster and coffee maker we outdated, no hotpads, not many kitchen untencels, small coffe table in living room, air conditioning was 10 degrees hoter upstairs in loft, loft jacuzzi cycled the jets on and off 5 minutes on and 5 off? A gas grill on the un-used deck and some chairs or hammock would have been real nice. Other than that, it was OK.

Facebook presence

Hi. Any thoughts of having a presence on Facebook? Thanks.

Next Top Model Photographer

Just found out the photographer for America's Next Top Model will be doing a workshop 11/6-8th @ the Gatlinburg Conv. We have logged over 200 miles of hiking the trails of the Great Smoky Mountains.

Around each bend, across each creek, old growth forest or historic cabin to visit, there is nothing like the Great Smoky Mountains. We try to start each hike with a visit to the Sugerlands visitor center, our favorite place to brouse and shop while visiting the Smoky Mountains. There are so many items pertaining to the past and present history of the smokies. We have bought honey, blackberry jam, books, maps, cd's, shirts, jackets and souveniors for us, our kids and grandkids.

There are so many great hikes to take ones mind becomes overwelmed at which one to travel on next. Our first real hike was to Abrams Falls probable in 1996. We had hiked (walked) several years before but I couldn't convince my wife to do so, besides our kids were small. One such walk! was to the top of Clingsman Dome probable in the 1970's. Of this I remember the trail was competley covered by a canopy of trees throughout the entire walk. I wish it were still the same. Later on she became more health wise and now loves to hike as I do.

Hopefully we will be able to hike after retirement and many years to come.

75th Anniversary

Did you guys know the GSMNP will be celebrating it's 75th Anniversary in 2009?

Discounts

2 days for the price of one Dollywood Tickets can be purchased at the front desk of Mountain Rentals of Gatlinburg if you are a guest.

Gatlinburg for New Year's!~

I just got back from a mini vacation to Gatlinburg for New Year's. If you aren't aware of this, Gatlinburg has a ball drop and fireworks for New Year's. It was AMAZING! The energy really excites you about ringing in the New Year. There was music. M&M characters came by to give out M&Ms. Some places sold decorations and some places just gave them away to get you in their stores (Mr Tablecloth). There was people, sooo many people, in the streets. 5 o'clock Somewhere offered a VIP section in their upstairs section to let you get away from the thousands of people in the streets. They only allowed about 40 people in the VIP section. They even have a balcony so that the people could go out and see the ball drop and the fireworks. Puckers and Crawdaddy's offered a 2 bars for 1 pass. You could go between the two all night long. Some restaurants were offering New Year's specials. BEWARE!! My husband and I had stopped at the leather store off the main parkway and started walking back by the Old Mill and found a lot of things to do and look at that we had no idea was there. There is so much to do in Pigeon Forge you just have to start walking so not to miss anything. We love Tennessee we got back in June and cant wait to come back. We have been staying in a cabin for the past couple of years. It was a great place to go to get away from our busy lives. It was so relaxing to sit in the hot tub with the trees all around us. It was so quiet & peaceful. It was a clean & comfortable cabin. We will definitely come back & stay there again.

Horseback Riding

Horseback Riding is a great way to get outdoors in the Smokies. When you stay at Mountain Rentals for 4 or more nights you will receive up to 4FREE Horseback Riding tickets for your party! This offer is valid until November 25th.
