Cabin Rentals Rating System

Cabin Rating

Last year we introduced a star rating system for all of our rental homes. The ratings are based on our Survey responses from each guest for the questions: “Rental unit overall” and “Value for the price paid”.

Our hope was to give our guests an idea of what other guests thought about this particular rental unit.  I would like to know what some of you think about this addition to the web site.  Is it helpful?  Is there something else that you would like to see that will better serve you?
We have also added a Forum to the blog if you would like to participate in any discussions about the topics listed.
As always I appreciate any feedback from you all because it helps us know what you need!

I think it would be helpful if you could actually write a review about the cabins so others can actually read the specific likes and dislikes for each cabin.

The star rating system has been very helpful in choosing a rental unit.  However, I do agree with Brandie.  Written reviews would be even more helpful.  Likes and dislikes vary from one individual to the next, affecting the ratings.  Additional insight from previous renters would help people make the best choice possible.

Brandie & Mary,

Thank you for the comments.  We have actually considered adding a space where guests can write reviews and comments, but we wanted to try out the rating system to see how it worked and if people liked it.

We also hoped more people would use the forum we created so they can discuss the individual cabins and the area's lodging in general, but it is relatively new and may catch on later.

Thanks Again for the helpful comments!!

Mtn. Laurel Chalet rentals has never disappointed us.  We have stayed at Rose Mountain.. It has a screened in porch which was great when the weather didn't cooperate.  We were lucky enough to see mama bear and her two cubs.  The mountain views were awesom.  We also stayed in Poppes on the Skyline..another great place.  Cottage View for 2 was were we spent our 25th anniversary...amazing.

I love your star ratings but it would be really nice if we knew why they earned five stars or less or what they had to do to earn the star on the property.  this is my first time renting with you and I hope that our cabin bear walk is as great as your website.

Thanks so much,

Alisha Darnell

Alisha,

The properties receive stars based on what our Guests thought of the homes overall and if they felt the price was a good value for what the home offered.

Bear Walk is a wonderful home and you will love the views!  Let me know what you think after you stay!

Gatlinburg Falls Resort.

What a great place to stay!!! We have been down there for the past 8 years. The cabins are awesome, there are great beds, kitchens and the gamerooms are WOW!

Pinball, Pool Table foesball, airhockey, 40 + game system, Golden Tee.

We are VERY DISAPPOINTED THIS YEAR!!!

We will not be coming to stay there. The prices have gone HOG WILD HIGH alot more then all the other rentals. Even with our return visit discount we can go and stay at another place that is just as nice and save almost 600.00 CRAZY..

FYI: Gatlinburg Falls Resort... LOWER YOUR PRICES people can't afford to rental and go out and do things around the area . PLUS the gas prices  Think of your return customers

We have also stayed at Gatlinburg Falls resort and we thought of going this summer but as Jill said above we could not believe the rates we rented with another cabin rental.

I will also FYI Gatlinburg Falls Resort  Your resort is really nice and is great for family vacations, but we have 4 kids and to stay with you all and go do other things we can't afford it... I am a Accountant and my hubby is a Accountant and we do make good money but to stay with you all again NOT because of your rates.

I hope that this website passes these blogs on to them..

Thanks you for the chance to let you all know.

Thanks for the comments guys!  Hopefully they will read your posts over at Gatlinburg Falls!  At Mountain Rentals of Gatlinburg we try to keep our rates low and we don't increase them during busy times.  We also offer Guest Appreciation Points! You can check it out at mountainchalets.com.

We recently stayed in the cabin "Glimpse of Heaven". We loved it. It was our first real family vacation. Our kids 11 and 8 also loved it.

We are already making plans to come back next year and hope to stay in the same cabin.

I just recently stayed at Appalachian Retreat, and I can honestly say that I was impressed!  You can't beat the location or the price on this chalet, and the views are pretty awesome too.  The big kicker was, it also has a 2 car garage, which very few cabins have, so that was an nice bonus.  I would think that anyone coming into this area for the summer car shows would want to rent this one, as they could garage their vehicle before the show.  I know my family and I will rent this one again in the future.

MaryRose,

I love this cabin!  An interesting fact: the owners purchased this cabin in October after 9/11 and that is why it is decorated in the American theme!  I thought this was a nice touch.

September will be my first time staying with Mountain Rentals of Gatlinburg.  We picked it for the wedding package and based on a word of mouth referral.  The cabins we've seen (from the outside) look awesome and the staff has been extremely helpful and friendly.  However, I was given the impression that my wedding guests would be placed in nearby cabins and from the look of the map, they are not.  I know the map may be deceiving, but I was hoping for walking distance.

Check out the Mountain Rentals of Gatlinburg forum.  You could also post your question there, it would increase the chances of getting more feedback from previous guests on the question you have.

Just so you know the owner of Pap's Cabin just brought 3 more on our program - Grand View 1, 2 & 3.  They all have great views, but Grand View 3 is amazing! We will see you in September!

Greetings! We are packing up and getting ready to head there next week - our first family vacation! Needless to say we are all very excited! We have reserved Heavenly Escape - anyone here have any personal reviews? It looks FABULOUS! My daughter has already proclaimed she is not leaving the hot tub! :-)

I do have questions:

Will we need to pack pots, pans and baking dishes to cook in?

Does a cleaning service come in during our stay and how often if so?

Do the attractions take Visa / Mastercard or will I need to bring mainly cash?

Looking forward to the visit and see you soon!

Wills Family,

You will not need to bring pots, pans etc.. On the property page click on standard amenities and you will be able to view all supplied items.

Housekeeping will not come into the home during your stay unless you are here for 2 weeks or longer.

The attractions do take VISA & MC.

SEE YOU SOON!

This will be my family's first time staying in cabins in the smokies.I have 3 boys (12, 8, and 4). We are looking into the Gatlinburg Falls Resort because of the amount of arcade games.  Does anyone have any suggestions or comments about this resort? Are there other places you would recommend? Thanks!

Has anyone else had problems with cancelling a cabin rental?  We put over a thousand dollars down as a deposit at the beginning of March, 2009.  Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have to cancel.  I called this morning and was told because of their 'rules and regulations', I could not get my money back.  I was also told that they had every right to charge my card with the remainder of the rent.  I didn't sign any form.  The cabin was rented for July, so they had plenty of time to rent it again.  Also, they were rude and actually hung up on me when I protested.  It might have been when I suggested that it amounted to theft!

Happy Camper said:

Please note this issue is not with Mountain Rentals of Gatlinburg. Skip would be well within the cancellation policy with Mountain Rentals of Gatlinburg.  We do have a flat cancellation fee and guests are informed at the time of booking.

All companies are different so when booking a rental make sure and ask questions and read their company policies.

Sorry to give the impression that the cancellation problem was with Mountain Rentals.  It was not!  I was told by Aunt Bug's that this was the policy of all rental companies and knew it wasn't.
